I bought the FZ80D on sale as a future replacement for my Sony HX99, which I have had since 2018. It has taken a while, and a few references to the User's Manual, to get up to speed with this camera. It is significantly larger than the Sony (I call it a "pocket rocket.") but with that size comes a much longer zoom range. And a feature I use quite often, macro focus works at all zoom settings rather than the zoomed in of the Sony. That said, it is difficult to get precise focusing hand held at the highest zoom setting. A tripod would be useful, but would limit the spontaneous captures I like to make. I shoot primarily nature.\nThere are subtle differences in the colors and textures captured by each camera, although many of those differences can be modified during editing in Lightroom. (I shoot in RAW only.)\nIn the past few days, I have learned better how to use the LUMIX to get the shots I want. It seems well built, and I can only hope it will last almost nine years like the Sony.
