I don't yet have a full set of speakers, but so far, I've been very happy with the performance.\n\nTo start, I was very impressed with the way the product was packaged and protected in the box. It made me feel like the product is a premium product worth protecting. It also gave me confidence that I would not be dealing with a product that received shipping damage, which is far too common of an occurrence for me recently.\n\nOnce I got the product unpackaged, it was easy to get everything setup a functioning. My only challenge was, when hooked up to the TV audio, the audio didn't sound right initially. But I was able to determine that my issue was the system thought I had a center and rear speakers, so once I corrected the setup to just include front speakers, the sound worked great.\n\nSpeaking of the setup, I was very impressed with the amount of setup options available, so I could dial in the system to work just right for my application (speaker spacing, speaker height, dialogue enhancement, bass, treble, size of speakers for front, center and rear, etc).\n\nOnce I got the setup just how I liked it, I tested out TV audio, movie audio and music. The sound quality was excellent for every application. I am really looking forward to adding center and rear speakers to my system!\n\nAnother feature that I have used and enjoyed is the Bluetooth connectivity. It was very easy to put the receiver in pairing mode and connect it to my phone. I am now able to easily play music in my home when I'm doing work or something other than watching TV.\n\nLast, I think the receiver looks great! It is a more simplistic design, but that is what I prefer. It blends into my TV stand perfectly. I was concerned I wouldn't like another piece of equipment on my TV stand, but I've been happy with the way it looks, so my concerns went away.

I've had this for about a month. Great receiver. It sounds good, looks good and has all the features needed while having a simplistic design (which I love) but has an issue with converting DTS-HD Master Audio to a 2.1 speaker setup. If you have a 5.1/2 setup, you're fine. Dolby TrueHD does this just fine. I had contacted support but they said this model doesn't support DTS-HD Master Audio. It clearly does but doesn't do well for a 2.1 setup as stated above. This is a must for those who enjoy watching Blu-ray movies and should be supported. Yes, you can set your Blu-ray player to convert the signal to PCM but it doesn't sound as good as it is probably being down sampled to 16bit or something. Dolby TrueHD sounds great. I just wish this model supported what other brands are able to do at this price range. Would also love to see a matching Blu-ray/CD player to match this receiver. We have other JBL products such as an alarm clock, soundbar with bass module, headphones, etc. And all those are 5 star products but this takes a hit being it is not able to play or support an old format (Blu-ray audio) properly. Hope to see a firmware update in the future.

My Ten Year Old Yamaha RX-V477 A/v Receiver Finally Died And I Had Narrowed Down My Shopping Options To 2 Models: The Denon AVR S270BT Or To This JBL MA310. At The Time I Was Shopping, (November 2025) The JBL Was About $70 Cheaper Than The Denon. I Decided To Gamble On The JBL Simply To Save Money, But Still Not Sure If It Was The Right Decision.\n\nAs It Turns Out, I'm Very Glad I Went With The JBL. The Sound Quality Is Fantastic, And The Features Are Great. My Only Complaint Is That Setting Up The Unit Was Not Totally Intuitive, It Took Awhile To Figure Out The Proper Settings. But After 30 Minutes Of Trial And Error, I Found The Sound I Was Looking For. \n\nThis Is A High Quality Product, And A Great Value For The Price. I Highly Recommend It.

The visual and audio quality with my home theater setup is amazing. The MA310 works great for movies to a point where I feel like I\u2019m at the movie theater. Also, I love it when I\u2019m just using it to listen to music because of the high sound quality it provides. This devices gives off surround sound like no other device I have had. On top of the high functionality of this device, it also has great aesthetics. I think it looks great and blends seamlessly into my home theater setup.

The large screen and RGB lights grab your attention but can be dimmed with a simple button on the front. The setup was very easy using the mobile app detailed in the instructions. This receiver allows you to set distance and volume for each individual speaker to fine tune your system. The second zone was very useful to send audio to another room and have it be controlled separately from the rest. Unfortunately there wasn’t a microphone to do a room calibration.

Coming from a Rotel RSX1560, this is a major step up. The JBL has a similar warm sound with B&W XT2s but with significantly more power. The EZ Setup EQ is a game changer in terms of the sound spacialization. Everything just works as it should in my 7.1 set up. Incredible sound stage and looks great as well. 5/5.

Using the HDMI eARC output to your tv and the input to your devices to ther HDMI inputs and, everything talks together quite well. The speakers connections are straightforward and the subwoofer has two outputs allowing for the use of two subwoofers. Unfortunately, this entry level unit does not work with the EZ Set EQ app so if you want more than the basic settings to tweak your unit you have to go through the front panel display and set things manually. Now this isn’t a real problem other than JBL doesn’t give you a flow chart of all the settings in the menu so you will have to poke around to find the things you want to adjust. Since you can’t use the app, there is no way to automatically optimize room correction or crossover settings. The MA310 basic setup does the job, but I feel you want to fine-tune things to take advantage of the whole JBl component setup. I didn’t mind doing a lot of manual configuration and going back to re-optimize everything to totally enjoy the system but you have to consider if the base setup is good enough for you or if your willing to do setup the old-fashioned way or to spend another hundred dollars to have some automation and some other upgraded features.

The MA310 is a nice receiver with lots of options for your home theater.\nI will start the review off by saying this unit is not for amateurs, I found the setup quite tricky, with no help from the documentation. If you are considering this line I would upgrade to the MA510 or the 710 so you can set the unit up from the app instead of digging through endless menus and options. But more on that later.\nThe Ma310 itself is very nice, I hooked up the speakers and sub with banana connectors without issue, I also connected the Blue ray DVD and our TV (via optical). There are more than enough HDMI inputs and plenty of room to expand from my 2 bookshelf speakers and sub to more speakers, like a center channel and some rear surround speakers as well. Once I was able to get the MA310 setup. I tweaked out the Bass, treble and steroe2.0 and 2.1 settings for my TV. I also dialed in the Bass from the dial on the subwoofer. I found the sound very good, the low, high and mid tones were very good. I paired my phone with the unit and was able to play songs from it. The sound was spot on as was satisfied with it.\nNow back to the unit. I consider myself advanced when it comes to setting up sound for any occasion. But I found it rather difficult to wade through numerous menu and sub menu items to make sure items were turned on or activated and those I didn’t care for, deactivated. The provided guides were basically useless. I found myself frustrated a few times and had to walk away during initial setup. When I finally had the unit the way I wanted I was more familiar with the user menu, which is not very user friendly, I was happy. For those that purchase this unit I advise you to skip the included material and go straight to the JBL website for in-depth instructions. This will save you time and from being frustrated. That being said, even those instructions left me scratching my head. I found through the website that there is an app that will help set up your basic settings that you can then tweak. This app called EZSet EQ. the app Bluetooth’s to your unit then plays a tone as you walk around with your phone in your room to basically sound check all areas of the space and configure a starting point for you.\nDid the app work for me? Not at all. Initially I set up the unit by ear and was ok but I gave the app a chance it basically set it back to start and I had to wade through the menu again (uh!) to set it back up.\nDislikes\nMenu’s not very user friendly. You can get lost in how many levels it has.\nIncluded material/quick start guide could be better, not very informative.\nOnline instructions not very helpful.\nEQ app useless to me.\nLikes:\nVery nice looking unit\nPlenty of inputs for multiple devices\nMultiple sound choice from Dolby, stereo, DTS etc.\nAble to handle anything you throw at it.\n\nI find the unit, now that I have it setup and am more familiar with the huge menu, very nice.\nIt works great with all of my devices. I would recommend it to friends and family if they are technically inclined or have help to set it up. Otherwise I would look towards the Ma510 or 710 with in app setup.

I have to start out this review by stating that I am not an audiophile. I enjoy my music and good audio for my movies, but when it comes to the technicals as to what makes audio good my knowledge is limited.\n\nPrior to this receiver and speakers I had been using a soundbar with a subwoofer. It was a decent setup, not on the cheap end, but still not you would consider high end audio. I suffered through it for years because of children getting their nasty fingers on it and simply not wanting to replace something for it to be destroyed later. Now that they are older, a new sound system was in order. \n\nThat said, initial impressions of this receiver weren't great. The primary issue I have with this receiver is the extremely dated interface. It uses a very barebones display that can only display a limited number of character. Browsing through menus trying to find the options you wanted took longer than they needed to, and because of the display explanations of features weren't possible. This problem was exaggerated by the fact that you only get a quick setup booklet in the box with it and it doesn't have detailed information on settings or steps you should go through once simply getting the system powered up. The booklet has instructions and its thick, but thats only because it has many languages in it. The section you will be browsing through will only have a few pages and most likely wont have information that you need. \n\nI'll explain the issue I had to bring it into perspective. Once I had it setup, I couldn't get my subwoofer to work unless I was in Surround 2.0 or Dolby mode. The manual didn't help with that, and I ended up looking online. After finding the full manual for the receiver I figured out that the speakers I had with it aren't considered large speakers (even though they are large relative to what I've used before) and because I had them set as such, the low frequencies weren't being passed to the sub. With a larger display that information could have been explained on speaker setup. If you are experienced with these setups this shouldn't be an issue, but for people just getting into the higher end audio this can be confusing. \n\nAnother thing that I am disappointed with is the lack of an on screen display while using ARC with this model. The upgraded models will give a minimalistic OSD so that you don't have to see the actual receiver to see what you're doing. I do not understand why this is paywalled given the already very minimal display, but its a little frustrating to see the feature in the manual for the other models and its not included here. \n\nOutside of those issues, this is an amazing receiver for those getting into high end audio. So far I have 2 bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer (All JBL) and the sound quality is superb. The clarity of audio, even at extremely high levels of volume really surprised me. The added notes I can make out in songs at high volume really added depth to what I was listening to. \n\nOverall I really do like this receiver for its audio quality. It lacks in areas of convenience but makes up for that with sound quality.

JBL recently introduced their new Stage 2 Modern Audio lineup for 2024. I've never own a home theater system before and I've always wanted to see what all the hype is about. I've always had soundbars since home theater systems has always been notoriously overly expensive. Enter JBL's MA series AV receivers. I wanted to test JBL's entry level model: the MA310. I do not know all the ins and outs of home theater so I thought I'd se what the entry level receiver can do. Device The MA310 is pretty sleek looking. The receiver does not take up too much space and its modern looking with big dials on the front of the device. The AV receiver is a 5.2 channel AV receiver that is able to produce a great sound on a tight budget. The receiver comes with 4 4K/60 2.0 HDMI inputs and an ARC HDMI port. Its able to decode 5 channels if Dolby and DTS with class D amplification. There is room calibration software that's built in by using a Android or iPhone. It's really simple as downloading the EZ Set EQ app and pairing via Bluetooth. It was pretty simple to setup the receiver as the interface was user-friendly and simple. JBL has done a great job with this receiver with keeping things simple. Sound The sound was pretty good. I used some of JBL's bookshelf speaks and their newest subwoofer in a 2.1 setup. I will say, the sound was pretty good for the small size loft I have this system in. After watching countless of hours of movies and listening to music, I can say the entry home AV receivers can perform just as good as premium soundbars. This really surprised me. Conclusion For serious gamers and people who want the premium formats like Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1 with eARC, and Dolby Vision, you may need to get the more expensive versions of JBL's modern audio AVs. For me, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is a must today. For the cost of the MA310 AV receiver, I can purchase and pretty good soundbar with all the features that the MA310 lack. I think JBL may be trying to appeal to buyer like me however, those that are new to home theater setups. I like the direction they are headed in, but the entry level receiver is stripped down too much for my liking. I would like the entry level to have HDMI 2.1 with capability of Dolby Vision and Atmos. I would have loved to have Network capability as well. Music streaming is popular today, so not having that ability is also a bummer. Aesthetic and Design\n\nWhen I unboxed the JBL MA310 5.2ch 4K AV Receiver I was impressed with its sleek and modern design. I liked that the front panel was designed like a plate with a red band that looked sporty. I also appreciated the low profile, standing about an inch and a half shorter than my previous receiver. However, the large JBL logo on the front is quite obnoxious and detracts from the otherwise clean aesthetic. The other thing I noticed upon unboxing was the weight, or lack there of. Of course, a heavy receiver isn’t everything, but it was an indication of what this unit is intended for.\n\nPerformance and Sound Quality\n\nAs expected, I felt the receiver was a bit underpowered when paired with my existing floor speakers. The sound lacked the fullness and depth I expected. Everything sounded thin. That’s the only way I know how to explain it. However, once I switched to JBL bookshelf speakers, the performance improved significantly. The sound quality was satisfying, making it a suitable option for apartment living or in your home office. Despite this, I feel like there are comparable options available at a lower price point, which might offer better value for money.\n\nSetup and Usability\n\nSetting up the MA310 was straightforward, although the caps in the banana plug holes were a hassle to remove. One disappointing aspect was the lack of an Ethernet port on the back of the unit. This omission means that firmware updates must be done via USB stick, which is less convenient than having network capabilities for direct updates.\n\nDuring my research, I found limited information from US retailers. Be aware, as there is a similarly named model available in the UK that includes network streaming features like AirPlay 2 and Chromecast, which this model does not have.\n\nFeatures and Functionality\n\nThe HDMI-CEC functionality worked beautifully, allowing me to control the receiver volume through my ATV 4K box by enabling CEC in the settings. As someone who appreciates simplicity, the small, basic remote was a joy to use, covering 95% of my needs. It's a far cry from the bulky remotes with countless buttons and macros from 25 years ago, which I would have loved back then but now find unnecessary.\n\nConclusion\n\nThe JBL MA310 5.2ch 4K AV Receiver is a decent option for those living in apartments or when using efficient bookshelf speakers in a smaller space. You get a good balance of design, sound quality (with the right speakers), and ease of use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As far as stereo amplifiers go this is a solid basic 5.1 amplifier. It has a simple but relatively striking design with two large knobs, one of which has transparent plastic and the "okay to turn past 11" message along the edges, which I find very fun and a great touch. The look is very sleek and modern, the style I received was black and I think it would look right at home with any decor. It lacks many of the more convenient features you would expect on a more robust model, but this amplifier does its job well and supports 4k passthrough. The settings are a bit limited but all the core essentials are there. The menus were intuitive and I didn't feel like I needed to spend a bunch of time reading the manual to figure it out. The only thing I was not impressed with was the remote; it could be a bit nicer. The squared-off battery housing underneath was uncomfortable in the hand for both me and my partner and it overall has a bit of a cheaper plastic-y feel. If you need a 5.1 home theater amp and don't want any extra bells and whistles this would be the one for you.

I replaced my Soundbar with this AV receiver. It is important to note that it is an AV receiver because it lacks a radio tuner. It has four HDMI inputs: two analog, a coax, an optical, and Bluetooth inputs. There is also an HDMI Arc Port.\n\nThis receiver is the right size; my turntable fits perfectly on top of it. I had to add a preamp so the turntable could work with this receiver. \n\nThe sound quality is impressive, and there are several Surround sound modes. I have the tuner connected to a stereo 2.1 speaker configuration. There are also outputs for a center channel and left and right surround. I still need to connect speakers to these outputs.\nI like that the tuner has large manual control knobs on the front for that tactical feel. It also has a remote control that can change everything you want: volume, inputs, surround modes, Mute, and Menu. The same buttons are on the front of the receiver. The menu selection is much easier with the remote.\n\nOn the back, there is every type of input that you would need for all the input sources.

Great value, quality amplifier for the price. All the basics I.e. HDMI, 5.2, Bluetooth minus WiFi or AirPlay. Actually pleased they didn’t include those things because it seems like they spent the money saved on the sound. I’m actually running our ‘vintage 90s’ Bose theater on this with 701s, VCS-10 and 141s in the rear and it sounds great. The big isobaric 8” woofers really thump in the big Bose on movies. Looks great too minus the dorky writing on the volume knob. Using it in and medium size apartment living room.

It was super easy to set up and all the controls are simple and easy to understand, it also has great sound quality I replaced my old Denon receiver with this one and was surprised by how much it improved the sound quality of my stereo. Would definitely recommend

It's what I expected. I wish it had included an FM tuner, but I've got Pandora, so that's fine. Good sound, and it's turned my TV into a Home Theater, which is what I wanted.\nIt's behind a glass door, so the remote works through the door. I'm very pleased.
