One bedroom room in my house is dedicated for my AV production studio/office/library. Wasn't too particular about aesthetics as they may be covered with a curtain for some sound absorption. All boards need to be laminated on ALL SIDES as a simple mistake in assembly by the user can have unforgiving consequences. One of my shelf layers has a non laminated side exposed and you have to pry off the nailed LAMINATED CARDBOARD back (Note: several tiny nails) just to turn the middle support board around. So in order to preserve structural integrity I left it as is. I would rather pay extra for easier assembly and higher quality stability hardware. Sauder made better shelves back in the 1980's and early 90's of which I bought 7. Assembly was more intuitive with higher quality hardware. Wish this product came with an extra shelf layer (board labeled F) and respective support hardware. Bottom shelf capacity - 40lbs, Middle shelf - 30lbs, other shelves - 25lbs, top shelf - maybe 5lbs (Sauder recommends no weight). I'm disappointed as the bookshelves I bought from Sauder in the 1990's hold much more weight. None of the boards are hardwood so if you want a bookshelf that supports a lot of heavy books then you need to build/purchase an all hardwood bookshelf.

I needed several bookcases which I planned to combine into a single large bookcase, adding framing on the front to dress them up a bit. These seemed to fill the bill. I had purchased several larger ones of similar construction a few years ago, but my Walmart store never seemed to have them in stock, so I decided to go with these. These arrived fairly quickly and were packaged well. However, they are divided into two vertical sections that are about the same height. Since there are only 3 shelves in addition to the middle fixed shelf, one of the sections can only have one shelf, resulting in two vertical spaces that are larger than most books and wasting a lot of space. The one I had purchased previously had the lower section smaller than the upper, so the 5 sections could be more evenly sized. I will have to purchase and add another shelf to make good use of the lower section of these bookcases. Moreover, the cases I purchased earlier were 30 inches wide and cost $25 each, These are 24 inches wide and cost $44 each. The 30-inch wide version was listed at $60 each, as I recall. I actually saved a little by getting five of the 24-inch units instead of 4 of the 30-inch units to fill the space I needed.

I bought two of these bookcases for my office. These will eventually be replaced. Just know going in that these are not high quality bookcases. They are cheaply built, but serve their purpose for now. They are particle board, so I don't expect them to hold up especially if they have to be moved at all. The top is held on by the flimsy (basically cardboard) back and 2 locking cams on the front side. Yes, this bookcase is a 2 piece unit, one sets on top of the other. Also, note that the side panels on the bookcase at the top are unfinished. If you are putting this bookcase somewhere where people can see the top, you might want to go with another bookcase as you can see the uncovered particle board at the top. I wasn't very happy with that.\n\nOne of the bookcases had a couple parts missing, and I had to go online to Sauder to order replacement parts. It is still sitting in my office partly assembled. The company does not include any extra parts in their packaging, so you better make sure you have everything before starting assembly.

Just bought a house so I am buying all kinds of furniture from everywhere... Granted, this is not the most expensive bookshelf out there, but in this day and age when everything is manufactured wood, this bookshelf is well constructed. It is the first product I've bought where I can obviously see that thought, creativity, concern for customer, concern for reputation, and just plain wanting to make a good product shines through. I was even impressed with the fantastic way it was packaged! In the future, I will always look to see if this company has what I'm shopping for before I go anywhere else. I am ever so impressed with company, product, packaging, and shipping. Their pride in what they do is just not seen very much these days, and it stands out. DID i SAY THE BOOKSHELF WAS MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE THEN MANY OTHERS i RESEARCHED THAT WERE OBVIOUSLY POOR DESIGN OR JUST PLAIN eh? I am ever so happy to find this manufacturer and can not give them enough credit. They seem to really take pride in what they do. THANK YOU FOR THAT! The world needs more businesses with that ethic.

I have bought Sauder products in the past, so when I was looking for a bookcase, and the Sauder name popped up, I clicked, and a few days later, the package arrived. It seems Sauder has lost their edge. There are two ways in which the quality is less than I expected. 1) The simulated woodgrain on the back panel was printed off-center, leaving it unprinted along one edge. I got around this by installing the panel so the defect was at the bottom, where it will be covered by books, so people won't see it. But still, it should have been better. 2) The screw holes used to be covered by plastic plugs, that weren't elegant, but at least they looked like they were supposed to be there, but now the screw holes are covered with faux-woodgrain stickers that try to match the bookcase, but don't; they look cheap. Overall, the product looks like it was designed by accountants.

Sauder is a name brand in the sense it's been around a very long time. Yes, it's particle board. The color is absolutely wonderful. At a glance it looks like a nice piece of furniture. Putting it together was somewhat of a challenge. Be sure to read the instructions before beginning! I had to undo a few screws. Overall I would recommend it for light use and not for super heavy items. They do have other pieces in this color but I believe they were out of stock at last glance. The shelves are adjustable as well which is also a plus!

This is a durable, simple, but nice looking bookcase. This is the second one I have purchased. I have a lot of craft books and supplies that I need to organize and this works very well. The shelves hold a lot of weight without bending. The backing is made of cardboard and finished to match the shelves. I worried that this wouldn't be durable but it had lasted very nicely on my other bookcase that I have owned for several years without any problems. I like the adjustable options so I can move the shelves to fit my needs.

I have not purchased from Sauder in about 5 or 6 years, so I found things a bit different. Overall, the changes are for the better, I especially like the fact that this case is assembled with regular screws instead of the odd fasteners used in the ones I purchased previously. I did have to change where I intended to place the shelf, as the ones I bought years ago were about 3 inches taller than this one; but that's on me since I only measured for length and width, presuming height would be unchanged.

I figured it would be more flimsy than some because of its being inexpensive: but the cardboard back that is more flimsy than some cereal boxes is the reason for the lower marks I'm giving it....so buyer beware, it looks like Sauder Beginnings bookcase will probably be a temporary fix. Just hoping it will hold books, as that what it is called and what it was purchased for!

This is my sons third bookcase, we already have two full ones. I was looking for something to match the ones he already has, which we purchased somewhere else. It is a dark cherry, it matches perfectly. It is also a couple inches taller than the other two I have, and better quality. I paid about 20 for the other two. This one was 30, I guess I would have to say it's worth the extra ten dollars! Very sturdy and easy to put together. Also, maybe the best feature is the shelves can be all spaced equally apart. With the other two bookshelves he has, the top shelf in each is completely useless because regular sized books will not fit in them. Very happy to see with this one that each shelf is capable of holding any book we have! Can't wait to fill it up, would buy this brand again and would gladly pay the extra 10 again, worth it!

I enjoyed assembling this bookcase with the three shelf case I bought at the same time. Once again, I have to say you could improve the design with a sturdier backing. It tore along the fold just by placing it before nailing. I enhanced your design by gluing and screwing and adding a stronger backing along with wood trim stained to match my existing cases.

This bookshelf fits the space beautifully and hods everything I needed to put there. It is not as sturdy as some, since the backing is wood printed cardboard, but it does keep the shape of the bookshelf very stable. Otherwise, it is doing its job well, holding many books and papers. The color matches some of the other pieces we have, so it looks great.

You can't tell from the picture, but only one side of each of the shelves has a white finish. The other side is raw. This includes the top and bottom of the shelf unit. Standing over the shelves, they look okay. If you sit down and look at them from across the room, you can see the raw "wood". It also has a strong chemical scent that takes awhile to wear off.

They look good. They are sturdy. Fairly easy to assemble. A 67 year old woman did it by herself.\nI would have liked a little more instruction on how the cams worked. I also would like an extra shelf for each but they will not sell them. I do recommend them. Especially for photo albums, yearbooks, tall books, etc. I am happy with my purchase.

Delivery was much swifter than estimated, and all parts were included in very sturdy packaging. This bookcase met my expectations as far as looks, quality, and ease of assembly. I did secure the top unit to a wall stud as recommended by the instructions to be on the safe side. I would recommend this unit as a good buy for the low cost.

We bought these for our business & they look very nice. They were easy to put together. I wouldn't mind if they were a bit more sturdy, but they are doing well so far holding heavy books. The back one of of the shelves that we bought had to be reinforced to stay on, but otherwise we are very pleased with these.

The bookcase is made of MDF, so I wasn't expecting a first- class product, but it was easy to hammer in a nail from the back and end up splitting the wood from the laminate side. Also, white STICKERS to place over the visible screws?? What happened to plastic caps?

great book shelf but not a fan of the unfinished top. Assuming no one sees it is wrong its an eyesore. The instructions also state not to put anything on top of the bookshelf either. There's no way around it either both sides that go exterior are this way.

Once I figured out on my own how to put this bookcase together, it turned out to be very attractive. Its 24 1/2" width was perfect for the space I had. I had 49" of space, and two of them fit perfectly. I don't know who wrote the assembly instructions, but he/she is a moron, that's for sure. No one bothered to state which pieces were the "top/bottoms," and only by the chance of noticing the almost-unnoticeable pre-drilled holes was I able to figure it out. Sauder makes good stuff, but the company needs to fire that instruction writer and turn him over to me.

It was somewhat easy to put together, but required 2 people and came out a bit crooked. It is cheaply made and you can tell the backing is cardboard. It is made of press board, so it's a really heavy package. The finished side could be put on the top as well, but it's not, which is annoying. Overall it is functional, but you get what you pay for. It's definitely a piece for a college dorm or kids room, or maybe garage or kitchen functional piece, I wouldn't put it in the living room or anywhere you want to give the illusion of having nice furniture.

I needed a new bookcase for my office to put my new Milwaukee Victor Stereo system on, so I bought this 3 shelf bookcase. I've bought Sauder furniture before and it's usually been a pretty good experience! This little bookcase did not disappoint. I put it together myself in about an hour. The lightness of the wood means that it doesn't get Dusty looking as fast, and it's perfect for my stereo, my CD's. my books and some knickknacks. The instructions included pictures and it was easy to build. The price was right, the quality is there and I do not regret this purchase at all. I love Sauder furniture. I bought this bookshelf and the complete Shoal Creek line and it exceeds my expectations. It did not take long to put together this at all. Thee instructions were very easy to follow! I had one product that had a cracked top, it just looked the the paint was cracked, but not the actual top. If you go to Sauder's website they make it so easy to order extra pieces for things and they have a great warranty. They then ship the part to you usually by UPS. If you choose to buy one brand of furniture that you have to put together choose Sauder, you will not be disapointed! Oh and we did site to store and it came a week earlier than what it told me.

I searched the Web looking for a used bookcase as I didn't want to spend too much money, I'm thrifty (cheap). I discovered this bookcase on Wal Mart & found I would spend as much, sometimes less, than for a used one. BUT, this bookcase was the exact size I needed, the used ones were not. I bought two & will buy another to completely cover a whole wall in my man cave. They assembled easily, are sturdy, match my decor, and are good-looking. Although they aren't solid wood, so far (two months) they are holding up even in my dampish environment with the shelves loaded with books. I probably should have rated the bookcase a 5 for value, but I didn't, so there.

I love the color of all of the Sauder Cinnamon Cherry pieces, they are beautiful in my family room. I purchased one 5 shelf bookcase, as well as two 3 shelf bookcases and the entertainment stand. Considering purchasing the desk for my bedroom as well, as I love these products so much! I did have them delivered site-to-store, and also had them assemble the pieces for us, as I am currently pregnant and it was more convenient for my husband and I to not worry about putting it together ourselves.
