I think this bookcase is quite sturdy and of good quality. Assembling it was, for me, working completely alone (no help), a bit of a task. Getting some of the wood screws to actually screw into the hard wood demanded some pressure applied, but I eventually got everything done. \n\nMy only complaint is that the lowest holes for the shelf supports were not quite as low as would be ideal. The top holes also were not quite as high as I desired. This results in a bit too much space between the bottom and the first mounted shelf. This resulted in the space between two of the shelves being less than desired. I think that if one more set of holes had been at the bottom and (maybe) also at the top, the bookcase would be a bit more suitable -- for me.

Much better quality than cheaper compressed-wood, vinyl-laminate shelves. No, this one is also not solid hard wood, but the overall construction seems more solid and the wood veneer is attractive. I agree with other reviewers that the backing is not great, because the folded panel is too long and subject to warping and being pushed back with repeated use. To resolve this, I bought a few cheap 1/4" x 2" x 4 ft planks and tacked them on the back to provide additional support. In my case these extra supports are up against the wall and not noticeable, but made the back very durable and helped to support the entire structure.

This bookcase is better than we expected. Assembly was fairly straightforward and took about an hour and a half. Some of that time was spent scrubbing off bits of styrofoam that had sort of ground into the product from its packing and transport -- that was about the only disappointing thing about the product. All the front-facing surfaces on the front of the bookcase are actual solid wood (oak) and pretty much all the other visible surfaces are a thin veneer of oak over some sort of particle board and they all look quite nice. We purchased "dry oak" and the color was a nice medium tan -- pretty much as you see on the web page. So much wrong here. It's not regular wood. It's pressed except for the veneer. The assembly instructions were not written by someone fluent in English. The top and bottom support rails aren't a tight fit. The back is a bit smaller than it should be because of the top and bottom shelves are about a quarter inch too long. Was also missing a shelf support. Called customer service 3 times but they didn't answer.

I am not greatly experienced in DIY instructions, but over the years I've put together different projects successfully. The quality of the bookcase was adequate. The instructions were primarily pictures with circles. I made an error, and when I tried to take it apart and fix it, was unable to get cam locks to come out. I feared forcing it would destroy the material. I was deeply disappointed in the outcome. Better instructions would probably have made a difference.

Very disappointed. Poorly designed and cheaply made. Also a hassle to assemble. Some pilot holes would have been useful, and, in fact, you need a drill to properly assemble this piece of JUNK. \nHad I known it was going to be ALL particle board, I never would have bought it. If this thing ever gets even DAMP, it's going to start falling apart. Not cool for something i bought to put in my BASEMENT room.

I love the quality and the look. I did not love that it required a drill-screwdriver to assemble and, even then, the wood was too hard for the screws to go in. I had to drill holes before putting in the screws. This is NOT a Do-It-Yourself job.

Perfect size, nice color. But after getting it all put together, we noticed that the top shelf (the one you see,) has scratches & places where the wood grain is bad or coming off. I would have asked for an exchange, but we noticed it when we finished putting it together & it was my Christmas gift. I needed to get the books off of the floor for safety sake.

I bought three different sizes of this bookshelf to put along the wall below our staircase. The 6' shelf arrived damaged... twice!.. but the 3' and 4' are wonderful. They were easy to put together, look very nice, and seem sturdy enough. The 3' and 4' shelves are a very good value.
