Prior to buying the cinema 50, I was running a very basic 5.1 separates surround sound system which was due for an overhaul. After extensive research decided the way forward would be to invest in a surround sound AVR. One that I could use for movies and music aswell as connect to my UHD loewe 4K TV and process a 3D Blu - Ray signal and connect to my turntable. I knew that Marantz as a company along with Yamaha made fantastic Hifi separates. So decided to research AVR's from these two companies. Within weeks i thought I'd settled on the Yamaha AVR of my choice RX-A4A, heading down to my local AV outlet. I enquired as to availability of that particular unit and my desire to purchase it. The assistant asked me a very profound question: what make of speakers did I have. I replied that I had a Piega front stage and satellite speakers. He then proceeded to advise me that the yamaha RX-A4A was very bright sounding and that my Piega speakers were also bright sounding and that the Yamaha could potentially be a bad match for my speakers. He suggested I look at the cinema60 from marantz as the Marantz sounded more warmer and bass richer than the Yamaha RX-A4A. And so would help my Piega speakers truly sing. After a few days thought and more research I decided that the cinema60 was going to be my new AVR, however when I went to purchase it they were out of stock and only had the cinema50 available. So on a whim I went with that. Got a fantastic deal on it also. How could I not buy it. Once connected I was blown away by its clarity and depth of sound aswell as many other features, especially how future proof it is. It sits on display in my home theater. A vision of aesthetic beauty. I bought the silver colour. It's minimalistic modern styling paying homage to marantz's rich heritage. I've had this beast of a machine in my home now for all of 4 months now and I'm only now getting the best from it. I've only scratched it's proverbial surface. I know it will produce more and over time will sound better and better than it does, currently it's sounding amazing! I can't comprehend how much further it can go, but I know it will and can. There is just one niggle. I've tried connecting my mini PC via HDMI cable and port to it and the receiver doesn't see the mini PC. How can I get out to do so any help would be great regarding this small issue. If not for that. I would leave 5 stars. For the amount paid I believe it should be perfect.

Although it may be sacrilegious to write this, an AVR is more than just how it sounds. It has to play well with others (components), and the manual has to be clear so that you can take advantage of all of the options (or at least some of them). I initially ordered the Integra 3.4 for my AVR. It sounded tremendous. Wonderful. Outstanding. But I couldn't get the Zone 2 to work (I'd either have Zone 2 work, but not be able to shut if off, or I couldn't get it to come on), and it would need to reboot about 50% of the time to work with my Sony TV. After a long day at work, the last thing I want to do when I finally sit down to watch something is to have to reboot my TV so my AVR will work with it. The Marantz Cinema 50 not only sounds great, but it also plays well with others. The manual is a lot easier to follow, and it is actually correct! The other factor to consider is that this receiver has so many options for different applications. You can increase the volume for dialog; you can change the volume of your front, center, and rear speakers. There are several "sound modes" that change the tone of the music/video. My only con is the "porthole" is much too small to be much help unless you are 3' away. Although it looks cool, it needs to be larger. I'm willing to bet that future iterations will keep the "porthole" style, but it will be larger.

I was looking for a AV receiver that would fit in my console cabinet that goes under my TV. My old Yamaha and the new Yamahas were just too deep. This fits. Most folks I spoke with seemed to agree that this receiver was one of the best in this price range. I have a 5.1 system with small Deftech towers ant the corners and front center (relatively efficient) with an SVS sb3000 sub. Speakers sound better than ever and Audyssey balanced the 5 speakers perfectly. The receiver made my current speakers sound better, almost like I got new speakers. Got to see first Mandalorian of the season with new receiver and it didn't disappoint. I still have some fine tuning to get the sub perfectly dialed in, but I am certain it will be perfect soon. Also, I would say the 110 watts is a conservative rating. It drove my speakers well enough. I did have a scare when the menu froze on me, but seemed to get better after a firmware update, so make certain you update.

I purchased the Marantz Cinema 50, because I needed to upgrade to a receiver that did 4K/120 Hz flawlessly, and had plenty of power with great sound. The Marantz Cinema 50 meets all those criteria, and sounds fantastic. I like it's slightly warmer presentation over my previous Pioneer SC-72. However, the main reason I chose this receiver over its competitors (Onkyo RZ-50, Pioneer vsx-lx505, etc) that do the same things was the supposed ability to downmix any signal from hdmi (Atmos, TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc.) to the zone 2 stereo pre-amp outputs. But when you turn on zone 2, the receiver sends a signal to the source that it no longer can decode DTS, Atmos, etc...(tested with an NVidia Shield TV Pro). Unless your source already has an alternate 2-channel audio track, or the source itself can transcode multi-channel formats to 2- channels, it will not output any sound to zone 2 OR the main outputs. So its manual is incorrect when it states that you can listen to any hdmi input signal on zone 2 (when it's set to the same source as the main outputs). The headphone output works correctly to downmix any signal to 2-channel, so I have no idea why they couldn't get the zone 2 outputs to work the same way.

Overall, I really enjoyed this receiver. Home theater and multi-channel audio was excellent. Audyssey did a great job on the speakers but all but eliminated my subwoofers volume (two) so I had to manually turn up the subwoofer volume after Audyssey did its thing. I have older Polk speakers (LSi15; 88db, 4ohm) which require some power and volume to light up and sounded nice on the pure direct mode but the receiver would shut down after a bit when turning the volume up for longer than 30 minutes.
I did have some issues with the HDMI switching but wasn't sure if it was due to the cables that I was using (ordered new 8k "certified" cables to replace mono price 4k). Ultimately, I decided to return the unit and wait for the Cinema 40 to be released as it has more of a stout amplifier design and 5 year warranty. If the 40 does not serve my needs, I will go back to the 50 and add a couple of external mono block amps to my front channels.

I recently returned the Denon x3800h. It sounded good for movies and TV but it just didn't do it for me for music and I preferred my old Yamaha AVR. I gave this a shot and wow, talk about having your cake and eating it to. This instantly sounded better for music, bigger sound stage, a warm tone, cleaner at high volumes and the channel separation and detail is amazing. ARC and HDMI CEC work perfect with my Sony TV so its easy to use as well for the rest of the family. Zero regrets here, if you listen to music more than just occasionally this is worth the extra cost over the similarly spec Denon.

I used this AVR to power a 5.1 KEF system with a SVS sub. Moving from a lower end Denon unit, this was a very welcome upgrade! Setup was quick and easy, room correction was spot on, and the power was definitely there. Not only was the audio improved, but since I run most video sources through my AVR, the video quality was also notably improved! There have been some reports of eARC issues, but I never experienced those issues myself at all using a Samsung TV. I look forward to seeing where Marantz takes the Cinema line!

Replaced a Yamaha RX-V6A which was a great receiver, but this Marantz blows it out of the water. I wasn't expecting much of a difference, but wow was it more than anticipated. I've read how that Marantz has a warm sound, and would have to angree with those statements.. Great sound. Also, a shout out to Eugene at Crutchfield. I've worked with him previously and he went over in detail my options, and ultimately ended up with this receiver. I couldn't be happier.

I've been looking for a new 11 channel Home Theater system for a couple years, but just couldn't find exactly what I was looking for in my price range until this I saw a YouTube review of the Marantz C50. I love this receiver and the 3D sound pre-set puts me right in the theater. I have a combination of Polk and Orb speakers and as a system, it sounds amazing. Also a shout out for Crutchfield on how fast the shipping and delivery were.

We use the Marantz Cinema 50 fro a variety of listening. The majority is TV, followed by movies, CDs and streaming. We have a marantz CD60 and are driving a Klipsch 5.1 system. It brings out all of the movie soundtrack and draws you into the action. We really enjoy music through the Cinema 50. It clean and accentuate throughout the frequency rangge. Im expecting to have many years of listening enjoyment.

Setup was straight forward. Dialed in speakers manually then used Audyssey, sounds sweet. Makes my Totem's sound very good. \r\n\r\nRemote could be more powerful. If you're not pointing directly at the receiver it doesn't work. Other than that I'm very satisfied with my Cinema 50. Originally I was going to buy the Cinema 60, glad I spent the extra money.

Excellent AVR, good power 110 watts, connections for 4 subs. Supports all audio formats. Flexible configurations. HIFI music listening to ATMOS movie streaming or 4K HDR DVD it’s great. The only negative I have is the tiny display on the the front. Because I use the Marrantz app on my phone it’s not an issue.

I'm loving how the Marantz Cinema 50 sounds, when I watch the same movies I watched before I'm hearing more detailed sounds I've never heard before. The surround sound is pretty amazing. When Dirac Live comes out in a few months I can only imagine how much better it will sound.

This is a replacement of the the same unit from about 1999. Had to upgrade one HDMI cable and then unit is working flawlessly. This is a top level product and I like it very much. It is the heart of a complicate system with many attached units.

I bought this AVR to replace my old Denon S930H. I have a 5.1.4 setup. While I never thought the Denon was underpowered but Marantz is a big upgrade.
Usage: 85% music and rest is movies played through Panasonic UB820.
Music source is Amazon Music (lossless), some Pandora and YouTube.
I was debating between Denon x3800H and this receiver, glad I chose Marantz. Music sounds better on Marantz.
Pros:
- Looks beautiful, side panels have a subtle design, and the white under glow on front panel looks premium with black body.
- Plenty of power for music and movies, my 18’x15’ room is probably more than adequately served.
- Remote is backlit and that’s a nice touch.
- HEOS and Marantz apps work seamlessly, I use Amazon music and Pandora, have had no issues.
- Soundstage in stereo mode has opened up tremendously compared to old Denon. My Focal Vestia Towers sound warm accompanied with floating notes. (Focals are a tad bright, Denon made them sound harsh at times).
- Watched several movies, bass is deep, atmos speakers actually opened up portraying depth as well as awesome transitions from 4 Atmos speakers and 2 surrounds.
- Binding posts are top notch.
- Really like the speaker designated labels, I thought that was a nice touch.
- Have not used Dirac but so far Audyseey has served me well.
- The Marantz interface matches the current decade (old interface was dated).
- I am eager to come home and listen to music, it is such a delight.
- Even my Klipsch RP-150M bookshelves sounded way better compared to Denon.
- I do not know the circuit related differences but this receiver sounded way better compared to several others during my auditioning for music or movies. I definitely think this is a top-shelf model and not middle or bottom shelf. You definitely get your moneys worth.
- Plenty of Prepouts for future expansion.
- I was hesitant to get this AVR when I read about HDMI issues but I have never had any issues. Seems to work adequately.
Cons:
- Need I say the price? Quality does come at a price.
- Display on the receiver is tiny almost cannot read it from distance.
