My faithful Yamaha AV box of ~40 years finally gave up the ghost, so the RX-2A2 was my chosen replacement because it has outputs for a full 7.2.1 speaker system.\nI can report that Yamaha's iPhone app was useful; the unit was easy to connect; and Yamaha's YPAO calibration of the speakers was super easy to use -- much improved over the last 40 years. <g> The calibration activity auto-starts when you plug in the microphone and found one speaker where I had inadvertently reversed the polarity of the wiring.\nUnsurprisingly, the sound is great and with 7.2.1 speakers, modern movies are fully immersive! (I watched Gravity and Bohemian Rhapsody as my tests.) Even a plain stereo movie (Patton) sounded great, although without any objects whizzing by overhead or alongside.</g>

IT IS DIFFICULT TO USE AND SET UP! POOR INSTRUCTIONS! HIGH QUALITY AUDIO!\nI was NOT prepared for how difficult it would be to get this receiver working. Could NOT figure out how to get ANY sound from it. I had a soundbar connected to fiber optic outputs of TV, so i thought i could just plug that fiber optic line into the fiber optic input of the receiver, but NO, spent hours trying to figure out how to get sound out of the speakers. \nWe tried just playing FM radio through the tuner but GOT ZERO SOUND from receiver. \nIt wasn't until my son had the idea to plug an eARC HDMI cable into the HDMI output of the receiver and connect that to the eARC HDMI input of the TV. At that point we had sound. \nWe haven't tried to use any other feature of this receiver, i'm so sick of messing with it, will try to figure out how to use it over time i suppose... I'M STILL GLAD I BOUGHT IT, SOUNDS GREAT with Yamaha NS-555 tower speakers, CS-444 center channel, and Klipsch RP6000 12" 400 watt rms subwoofer!

Coming from a Yamaha RX-A700, I had some high expectations. Expectations which were exceeded! This thing is a beast. UI is typical Yamaha. YPAO was helpful. Sound separation across my 5.1.2 setup has been stellar. Components being matched with this AVR - ELAC Debut 2.0 floor standing L/R, Debut 2.0 center, front Atmos, and rears as well. Bottom end provided by a SVS PB1000. Incredibly happy with the product and ABT's order process and buying experience. Shipped fast, arrived early.

Very impressed with Yamaha sound, I followed the online manual and had no issues. Great for watching 4k movies, airplay and music. I have this hooked to a 5.2.1 system by bowers and Wilkins and an 10 inch sub, amazing sound blown away. E Arc is support convenient and these are coming with the 4k/120 signal.

I bought the Yamaha RX-A2ABL to replace a 20 year old Onkyo receiver that finally quit working because of lightning. I never used the Onkyo as a video switch, but did use it for surround sound and regular two channel stereo listening. The Yamaha RX-A2ABL wasn't my first choice of replacement units. The problem is there are so few receivers available on account of the pandemic. It took me months of being on e-mail notification just to be able to acquire this one.\n\nThere are some good points about the RX-A2ABL. There are two line-level outputs for subwoofers. The RX-A2ABL has a decent remote control. For a 100 watt per channel receiver, this is far less heavy and bulkier than the Onkyo it replaced. There is one digital coaxial input, and one fiber optic digital input, each with its own audio input on menu. And besides line level stereo input, the RX-A2ABL also supports Bluetooth and AirPlay (uncompressed). The Bluetooth and AirPlay modes work well. There are two Wi-fi antennas on the rear and the RX-A2ABL easily connected to my home's wireless network. Using the remote control and a connected TV, you can adjust various channel and surround modes, and speaker settings. There is also a built-in equalizer but I never use it.\n\nThere are built-in clients for several pay subscriptions, and a selection for numerous free Internet radio stations. I tried the client for SiriusXM and that does work with some drawbacks (more on that later). There are multiple HDMI inputs and it has a single HDMI output. There is also an AM and FM radio mode. The FM works reasonably well, even with the small antenna supplied. There are no FM HD stations in my immediate area so I don’t know if the FM handles that.\n\nThe built-in Wi-Fi support allows the RX-A2ABL to link to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless. The RX-A2ABL has a built-in firmware update that will update the receiver's functions, once you get the unit connected to your home's network.\n\nNow for the list of stuff that is less than desirable. First is all the blank display space on the front. In reality, the RX-A2ABL has a small LCD display in the upper right. The rest of the front is empty. There is a wealth of valuable information that could be displayed, but the RX-A2ABL strives for a minimalist display.\n\nAnother drawback is using the built-in SiriusXM player. I have very good wireless coverage in my house, and excellent Internet. The RX-A2ABL is only six feet away from my router. While trying to play the SiriusXM mode, the network connectivity became so poor that SiriusXM dropped back to a really low bitrate mode, and sounded terrible. But I listen to SiriusXM on my desktop PC and laptop all the time. To be sure it wasn't my home network, I started playing SiriusXM from a laptop, and then directed that over a Bluetooth connection to the RX-A2ABL. That process all worked fine and without interruption.\n\nOne final comment is the built-in AM/FM radio. As I mentioned, the FM does seem to work reasonably well, even with the small antenna they ship with it. But using the included AM radio loop, the RX-A2ABL was only able to receive one local station. I have a Grundig portable radio receiver and even without an external antenna, the Grundig is capable of receiving numerous stations. I mention this because there may be people that depend on AM radio at times, and those people will be nearly out of luck with the RX-A2ABL.\n\nIn closing, the RX-A2ABL is a 100 watt receiver that supports surround sound. Presumably it can act as an HDMI switcher, allowing numerous HDMI sources to be routed to a TV. Some of the functionality can be handled by the provided remote control. But be assured that for full navigation and access to features of the built-in apps, you must have an Android device, or an iOS (Apple) device. I would have preferred the settings for the various channels be handled with a built-in display rather than requiring a TV. I get the impression that AM and FM radio were not that important, and as such the AM is useless. If you are not comfortable with pairing apps on an Android or Apple device to garner full product support, you will not be comfortable with the RX-A2ABL as I found using an Android phone the way to do part of the setup. And you need an Android or iOS device to navigate the various Internet radio clients. In short, if these were normal times this unit would be sent back and I would invest in something more worthwhile. This was not my first choice of receiver, but was the only thing that became available. I would not recommend this model to a friend.

Sounds great, but the hdmi handshake between the receiver and my 900e Sony TV causes the screen to go green when switching inputs on occasion which I find unreasonable for the money. It never happened on my previous receiver.

it has a few shortcomings. hard set up. no video guide to set up, remote is not back lit and all black which makes it super hard to read in the dark.

It lacks certain features that other brands offer, but at this price point this receiver is definitely your best choice.

Upgraded/downgraded from Avantage RX-A2000. This set up with my Samsung 43 inch 6000 series 4K TV fairly easily. Unfortunately, I upgraded my 4K 43 inch Samsung TV to a 4K 50 inch QLED Samsung. \r\nI could not get it to pass the cable through from input one to the TV without contacting technical support, a Yamaha and spending about an hour on the phone changing HDMI handshake settings. Finally got that working but when I connected my external antenna for over the air TV to the TV using the HDMI two audio return channel ARC is supposed to send the audio back to my home theater receiver which I'm sure it did but I still can't get that to work. \r\nFurthermore, my old receiver whenever I change the input, it would display all of the inputs on the TV screen so you were know what you're changing it from or two making it very easy. Not the case anymore on this receiver it also does not seem to receive or display High def stations on FM. \r\nAll in all I'm disappointed when compared to a much older, albeit slightly more costly receiver. It works fairly well but I would have paid more if I was aware of one that works better.

This complex feature-laden easily future expandable Yamaha AVR was purchased due to prior experience with an older basic Yamaha receiver that I am using elsewhere . This product is more complicated and and less user-friendly for me...the user guide itself is 380 + pages . So that being said and although it is basically plug and play, unless you are quite tech-savvy it is a bit of a challenge that I am enjoying immensely as I learn how to utilize more and more features.Movies sound amazing as well as music that is streamed or played through digital sources. This receiver performs great. It has plenty of power to drive my Acoustic Research Holographic Imaging 4.5s. This receive has problems with Apple products, it is not capable of displaying HDMI inputs from Apple TV or MacMini. It is a known problem (many online complaints) and Yamaha has no solution. If it works out of the box for you congratulations, if not it is a long frustrating process. Too complicated for its own good. Have been happy with previous Yamaha models but the A2A is a huge frustrating disappointment.
