Very quiet running large capacity freezer. Seals when you close it thats the reason why it takes a tug to open which is a good thing for saving energy I believe. Con: Shelving could've been spaced closer to add another shelf or more adjustable slots installed. The way its configured overloading the shelves will happen. Too much space in between shelves. Customers must add baskets to elevate the situation or the wire shelving will bend do to the weight. PROS: Very quiet compared to Frigidaire brands I purchased and returned. Digital temp outside of unit and it also lets you know the power is on. Gets up to temp quickly and alerts you to close the door if opened too long. Sizeable shelf depth, could be wider but ok. I always weigh down my uprights with bags of ice so they don't move when pulled until I fill them with food. So far no frost build-up. This is a 5 star purchase but I took 1 star away because they cut cost and didn't built it to allow another shelf to be added. Not a deal breaker. Great purchase so far!

The upright freezer has good flexibility for shelving and has the nice glass shelves - better than the wire ones for sure. It is nice and bright inside the freezer so that will make finding things a bit easier. I like the visible freezer temperature setting on the door and the alarm that sounds when there is an issue with cooling or power failure. It does make some white noise when actively cooling but sometimes is totally silent. We have the freezer in a utility room so the low level white noise doesn’t matter to us. Looks like a solidly built product and has many great reviews which is one of the reasons we purchased this unit over many others. So far very happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of trouble free service.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Switched from a chest freezer to this upright freezer. Best move ever. The ability to organize is so much better than the chest freezer that you can actually see what is in there without digging out half the food to see what's in the bottom. The unit is very quiet. This model has the glass shelving which I prefer over the wire shelves. I've only had it a short time but, everything is nicely frozen at the temperature default setting. Plus, it, a nice- looking unit. It also has 3 drawers that are very useful. It has decent capacity at 17.3 cubic feet. I can't comment on how much electricity it's going to use since I've only had it a short time. It is energy star rated.

I chose this particular model of GE upright freezer because of the many good reviews, the decent price, and some very convenient features. Some of these are conveniently located on the outside front of the freezer door which means you don't need to open the freezer to access them. These include temperature control, high temperature alarm, door open alarm, and turbo freeze. The glass shelves, top drawer and 2 large bottom drawers are very handy, as well as the bins on the inside of the door. This freezer has a decent size capacity for a garage freezer without being too large. It's very quiet and has a much better than average energy rating.

It's a great freezer. Plenty of room and sturdy shelves. It has 3-4 preset temperature options and holds its set temperature well. I dislike that someone made the decision to not include the last door shelf. There is a place for it, and what could have been a $10 cost increase would cost me 4 - 5 times that amount delivered. If I had caught that detail prior to purchasing our freezer I would have looked more closely at the more expensive ones to see what the extra $40 - $50 door shelf cost would get me. I also didn't appreciate the freezer rocking back and forth after it was "installed".

We have had this freezer for 6 weeks, it replaced a Frigidaire that was past its best. It has clean lines and looks good. I like the Temp gauge on the front. So far it has kept to temp however we found that despite it's size 17.5 cu ft it was not easy to pack. The door shelves are narrower than the Frigidaire and so hold much less. Also the baskets at the bottom are not that deep and so some storage capacity is lost there. It is very quiet and hard to hear if it is running which is a good thing. I do like that the controls are on the outside and you have an alarm for door open.

There is good news and bad news about this freezer. The bad news is that it’s virtually impossible to open the door when it’s cold. Our workaround is a soft plastic putty spreader that we use to gently break the seal on the side so that it opens more easily. The good news is that the seal is so tight, it keeps things super cold and I am certain their claim that it will stay frozen for 48 hours if the power goes out is correct. It’s nice on the inside and things are beautifully organized. Our work-around is not a problem and the trade-off for a super tight seal is worth it to us.

Seems like a good freezer with many positive features. Door controls are a plus. Ample storage. Surprisingly quiet. Glass shelves. One negative I noticed is the shelves seem flimsy. Probably in a smaller unit the narrower shelves would be stronger. Time will tell if the shelves will hold up. That’s the basis for 4 stars. Also time will tell if it is a good product. I have my doubts about having only a one year warranty. Very disappointing that GE doesn’t have the faith in its products to make multiple year warranties standard.

Bought the smaller GE 14 cubic version 6 years ago and loved it. The freezer was working great. Through a local energy program was able upgrade at a bargain price by trading in my working freezer to the 17 cubic and love it. Same electronic display with temperature control and sensor-alarm. I used the turbo feature when it was first installed and when placing large amounts of meat to freeze. The shelves and 3 drawers (especially the wide narrow one for smaller items) makes it easier to organize and see what I have. And it’s quiet! Love it!

Although it has only been 3 weeks I am very pleased with it. I spent 4 months with another brand freezer that would not keep temperature. The first one didn't even get cold. The second one the door seal would not seal. Frost was building up on a frost free unit We had to duck tape the door shut in order not to loose anything. My GE freezer is keeping a good temperature range of 1 degree to minus 3 and defrosting on a regular schedule of every 24 hours. So going forward I hope this continues.

We bought this to replace a 30+ year old freezer we had in the garage. That was before the days of "garage ready" freezers.\n\nEven in the high (90+) temperatures we've had lately this freezers temperature has maintained 0 degrees.\n\nThe only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of five is the lower storage drawers. Our old freezer had one the full width of the freezer. This has 2 separate ones which slightly lowers the total capacity. A small prize to pay for a great freezer.

We love this size. The one we had stopped working. We ordered this a bit larger and like it so much better too. The first thing we noticed together my husband and I was “wow, it is so quiet”! What we like is that it has a lot for shelving and I’ll be able to organize it better, where it won’t look so crowded. We love that the temperature setting is outside instead of bending down and trying to read what temperature it is inside the Freezer. The best of course, is the energy and monies we will be saving..

We are impressed with this freezer since we ordered it online, without being able to look at it in person. It has a temp zone panel on the inside that can be adjusted from cold, colder and coldest. Love that we do not have to manually defrost this freezer. Nice size in cubic feet to hold an ample amount. Very quiet operation. The door storage is tricky since the storage trays and the shelves need to be staggered in order for the door to close. Very happy with this freezer and recommend it

This 17.3 GE freezer has great features. The shelve and drawers provide ample storage for our needs, while the outside measurements make it fit well in our laundry room. The outside door digital controls and alarms provide a quick view should there be power outage, visible read of inside temperature, and easy ability to change temperature settings. If not comfortable using the digital control, an inside temperature control can be used. Overall, completely satisfied with this GE FUF17 model.

Easy to use and set up. So far so good. Very excited and fortunate to be able to take advantage of this freezer to store up food. The light inside is very bright awesome features including the alarms when door is left open and when temp goes high. Energy efficient what else can you ask for I do wish instead of glass on the shelves they would have been metal or stainless steel shelves. Although I don't know how sturdy the glass shelves are they do feel study. Overall I recommend this freezer.

These are much bigger than I was expecting, which is good! We got 2 and they both looked like they were in great shape upon arrival. After unboxing, setting up etc I was taking off all the tape and foam they use on the inside to keep the shelves in place and both are cracked at the very bottom. I don’t think it will cause any issues but we will be using epoxy or something to fix that up. Other than that super happy with our purchase and delivery!

We really like this freezer so far. Been about a month. Temperature outside on door says 0 but I got 3 Temperature gauges inside showing 3 to 5 degrees colder. The seal on the door looks very thin, but it creates a strong seal cause it takes some effort to open. Good bright light inside too. Really quiet. Wish I can clean the condenser coils but they are inexcessable to humans buried in the sides of the freezer. We'll see if any problems occur. Just had it for about a month.

This GE Upright Freezer has a lot of room on the inside! Love that it is an Upright which makes it easy to see what's inside. Has an inside light, several shelves including one that pulls out, and has storage on the inside door. Great that it has a door alarm if the door isn't closed properly. Fits perfectly in my garage. So far it is working perfectly. Will send another update once I have had the GE Freezer for awhile. Very pleased that I was able to get it on sale.

This freezer is huge. It has a ton of space for all your steaks, fish, pork chops and so much more. There is one drawback though, you cannot switch the handle from one side or the other. The handle comes on the left side if you are looking at the freezer. It definitely wasn’t the best scenario for me but I made it work. Especially for the price point. It’s in my garage and it hot as hell in there and the freezer stays below zero. Great freezer if you ask me.

I've only had this freezer a few weeks. It replaced a much older one and so I find I greatly appreciate the interior lighting and I like the shelves/drawers inside. I have a much better idea of what I have "in stock" with this freezer. In the largest opening I have added a plastic milk crate for some bagged things, but might not always keep it there, depending on what I have on hand. I like the lit display on the outside about the temp on the inside.

This is a replacement for the very same freezer that only lasted 2 years after I purchased it. Thank goodness i had the presence of mind to pourchase an extra warranty insurance on it! \nThis newer one looks the same as the first one that I had. However, the door is extremely difficult to open. The suction that it has is far too much and sometimes I just can't seen to get it open. \nThe capacity is good, but it could use more shelves. I like fact that the shelves are glass and not metal. It is frost free, so you don't need to defrost it. So far, it is keeping the temp at -6 degrees F. So it is doing a good job there. It is very quiet which is nice as well. I like the fact that it has drawers on the bottom and one on the top shelf, and the lighting is good in it as well. I did purchase an additional warranty on this one as well, given the fact that the GE appliances don't last very long.

I love the door alarm feature so if my kids leave the door open which they have done many times I will know before the food thaws! The delivery was quick and the drivers removed the packaging and took it with them. That was much appreciated. So far, it’s been a few weeks and this freezer is working perfectly in my garage. At first, I turned it up to the highest setting to get it cooled down before transferring my items from my older deep freezer. I love the ability to see all my items in a standing freezer as opposed to the deep freezer I’ve had for over 20 years.

I really like my new garage-ready freezer. Lighting is superb; 17 cf plenty room for my freezer requirements. It is sleek looking and fits just right. I also like that there are two big drawers at the bottom that are plastic, just like in the fridge, instead of one big wire-type drawer that things can fall through, and can be difficult to maneuver. The smaller drawer near the top is excellent too.

It arrived after delivery delays and was placed in the basement. I put 15 pounds of ice and some blue ice in it to see how it did the next day. All was good until the power went out for 28 hours. Because the freezer was not full the ice on an upper shelf did melt some. This is well under what I expected however an almost empty freezer doesn't have much to keep it cold.

As deep and wide as the 23 cu ft freezer it's replacing, but about 10 in shorter. Door shelves are a little narrow to fit some containers (such as qt-size deli containers or round oatmeal boxes). Very functional interior shelves and drawers. Door digital display is really nice. Wish alarms would be a bit louder. Overall looks like a good purchase.
