This battery is original equipment from Standard Horizon. It came half-charged and came up to a full charge in about 5 hours. Its charge capacity is more than 50% greater compared to 3rd party batteries (1800 mAh vs 1100 mAh). I have bought 3rd party (aftermarket) batteries for other applications and have nothing against them if they get good reviews. But in this case, I decided that the extra power is worth the extra cost for this application in a VHF handheld radio that may be needed in an emergency to call for help, to pick up others' distress calls, and even to power the strobe light on the radio in the case of man overboard or search and rescue.This battery is original equipment from Standard Horizon. Charged properly and works well in the marine radio. Used in conjunction with a Blue Seas mini Automatic Charging Relay, this battery switch is ideal for separating two batteries so they may be recharged by a single source, such as the alternator in your outboard engine. Use it on my motorcycle, where it works great. I tested it on various roads with known directions, and also against the iPhone GPS compass. It has two axis compensation screws but I did not need to use them. One needs to try different locations, with the motor running. I had no luck on the instrument panel or windshield, but it is accurate when mounted to the handlebars. Awesome value for a compass for under $50.Use it on my motorcycle, where it works great. ANCOR WIRE IS THE BEST QUALITY. i WILL NOT USE ANY OTHER BRANDS. I USE IT IN SOLAR SYSTEMS AND ANCOR CAN TAKE THE ABUSE OF SUN, WEATHER, OIL ETC. Not really a kit. It's only two peices of a lot more you will need to get, to get the job done. It was time consuming rounding up all other prices. Be a talented DIY'er. Once it all came together the switch worked fine. It will cost you a bit of money to finish the job after you buy this kit. Don't be surprised.

since cable slack on most boats are a luxury, often times the cables connecting to these switches are tight and place extra loads (especially when boat is underway) on the connection portion of switch.
