The stones look great. They are strong, very less damages, easy to cut. Just labeling should be better. The color distinction between beech briwn, cedar, brown, chestnut brown and one of the boxes had 3 trays of one brown color. The sizes are randim between boxes and there was no difference od side A, side B on the stones, as mentioned in instructions. The Product was great, but just the instructions and information were misleading and lack of consistency in size combinations ( stone size was perfect, but the mix of sizes was inconsistent across boxes )

My wife and I just finished an electric fireplace wall with built-in mantle in our family room using the Autumn Mountain Air Stone. We are avid do-it-yourselfers and saw this product at our local Lowes and thought we would try it. Getting started we found the pieces were as described - although 2 of the 5 boxes of flat ends that we purchased had several layers of gray air stone that did not fit well with the tan and dark brown that was described on the box. We ended up returning the boxes with the gray stones. The texture of the stones and the random lengths made the starting row fairly easy. I did find that some of the pieces were +/- the 2" and 4" heights and this made gaps in the following courses that we thought added to the appeal of the stacked stone look - but the gaps showing and the white adhesive that also showed through caused us to one coat paint the wall behind the stone with a light brown paint that helped to cover up the gaps. I would only allow the gaps to become so big and ended up trimming down the height of the stones or used a few small shims to hold the line until the adhesive set up. The courses we laid were not perfectly straight but we did want the final course under our mantle to be dead level so we adjusted here and there until we got it level. As I mentioned the gaps due to the height of the individual stones is something to reckon with - but not too difficult if you take your time. We liked the adhesive for tack and final bonding - although I would have not used a white adhesive on a brown / tan stone if I would have had a choice since we had some final clean up to do removing the white adhesive. We thought the adhesive was a decent value although we did use some construction adhesive which is brown when we thought that the white adhesive would show through the gaps. We used typical titebond construction adhesive and had good results with it since it was an interior project. Over the course of this project I found that I could cut the individual stones with a table saw (blade backwards), a jig saw with a metal cutting blade, a hand coping saw, a wet tile saw and a hand held grinder with a cement / brick cutting wheel. The stones cut very nicely and both end cuts and length wise trimming was no problem. Our project required some mitering of the ends and we found that a close matching latex paint was the perfect cover up for the cut ends that showed. We laid our air stone over cement backer board since we had intended to lay real stone until we found this product. We tried a few pieces on regular drywall and found it a suitable surface as stated in the directions. As we laid up the courses, we did find the back of some of the stones to not be entirely smooth and ended up smoothing the backs of the worst ones by rubbing them on a concrete block so they laid on the surface flatter. The ends of the stones also had some molding slag that needed to be sanded or trimmed down to make them smooth. We found the stones somewhat brittle and we were careful not to press overly hard when laying the courses since we cracked a few during the installation. Smoothing the backs of the stones helped to reduce cracking when pressing to make sure the adhesive was spread out evenly. We are picky - but we worked with this product and it turned out very nice. We like the texture, color and the final stacked stone look. We were also impressed with the natural end stones which we used on the both of the wall ends that showed. We laid this wall for less than 1/2 the cost of some other materials that we looked at so we found Air Stone to be a good value for the look we wanted. I would recommend this product and we do plan to surface the outside of our family room bar with it as well. It is like any other project, take your time, lay out and trial fit the pieces before you set them, be prepared to trim some, keep an eye on the gaps and your level line, don't be too fussy and you'll have a finished project you'll be proud of for a good price.

I understand the complaints of some reviews on here, but I also think that some of the problems are a result of impatience and operator error. The airstone is brittle at times, it does require some sanding/scraping before install, and it can have a paper mache look if you do not stain or seal. HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS . . . If you put in the work, the final product can be outstanding. I used airstone on a kitchen island, one full wall in the kitchen (3 ft wide x 10 ft tall), and a half wall for a bar. I recommend: - a 5-in-one tool to sand/scrap the pieces as you install - a wet saw if you are installing many pieces (sawing by hand becomes tedious) - cut your pieces and level an entire row before you use any adhesive - if you are installing without backerboard (which is fine) you might want to paint the wall behind the stone to match the stone. If not be, sure not to leave any gaps that would othewise require grout. Finally . . . Stain and/or seal for the best look. This product has a paper mache finish out of the box. I used Valspar High Gloss Sealer "Wet Look" - 2 coats - and it dramatically improved the finished look of the airstone. It gave the airstone a more realistic and slightly darker appearance. Experiment with concrete stains and seals to find a look that pleases you.

Fireplace surround dimensions: 72” wide by 52” high. Products used: 2 boxes of AirStone primary stones and 2 boxes of corner/edge stones. 8 tubes of extreme heavy duty Liquid nails. Each box of the Birch Bluff Airstone contains enough stones to cover approximately 8 sq ft. The boxes contain stones in 3 variations of the color chosen, and in the Birch Bluff the color variations are separated into different trays labled A, B, & C. Each tray contains 10 stones with 8 stones that are 2” high and 2 stones that are 4” high. Each tray also contains stones in varying lengths that are 12”, 8”, 6”, & 4”. This was consistent in each box. The trays in the edge/corner boxes contain 5 stones that taper down on one edge and 5 straight stones each so you can make smooth 90 degree corners if you choose. We had maybe 1-2 broken stones per box once opened, but not a big deal because you’re going to be cutting them anyway. We have a lot of stones left over between the edge and primary stones, maybe enough to fill an entire box. We chose to use Liquid Nails instead of the AirStone adhesive based on reviews we read, and we used an angle grinder with a diamond masonry blade to cut the stones - made cutting quick and easy. Very dusty so definitely recommend cutting outside. We taped the dimensions of our fireplace on the floor and then laid the stones out how we wanted them to look once on the wall. This process took a little over an hour. We laid the new tile hearth and put some pieces of our new floor down so we knew where to start at bottom. We also screwed a few 1x2” pieces of wood into the firebox to provide a temporary ledge to support the stones above the fireplace opening until the adhesive cures (24 hours). Total time for this project including the laying out the stones ahead of time was about 8.5 - 9 hours. Adhering the stone to the wall was so easy, our 12-year olds got in on the action. Total cost for the stones and adhesive was just under $300. Total cost of the project including a new mantle and tile hearth was $550. We received a few professional estimates for this project that were all in the ballpark of $5,000 or more, which caused us to seek out a more cost-effective solution. That’s when we found AirStone and couldn’t be happier with the results & the cost! Definitely recommend this product.

I have been looking for a DIY project to cover the plain, white tiles surrounding the fireplace in my new home. I saw this product in my local Lowe's, read the literature in the store and decided to give it a try. I purchase two boxes of the stones - one flat edge and one finished edge. I also purchased one container of the interior adhesive. The boxes sat in my garage for about 1 1/2 weeks before I started the project. There were several packs that contained broken stones. I live a good distance from Lowe's and decided I could make do as I would probably have to make lots of cuts since this was not a large fireplace surround. The first two boxes of stones I purchased were like another reviewer stated - not smooth on the edges. Granted, the 'finished' edge stones on one end were not meant to be smooth. However, the edges that were supposed to be smooth were not - I used my palm sander with 80 grit paper and sanded those edges. I had to return to get another case and #1# I opened the box to ensure that none of the stones were broken #2# found that the edges on these stones were indeed very smooth #like glass#. There were some 'accent' stones that were much darker than the 'accent' stones in the original two boxes I purchased. I also purchased another tub of interior adhesive. Literature states you can cut the stones with a hacksaw. That may be possible; however, I used my electric miter #chop# saw with a masonary blade. With so many cuts to make, this was a lifesaver for this project. My recommendations: #1# open all boxes to make sure that there are no broken stones #2# check that all the 'accent' stones are the same color darkness #there are different colors of course - but one case had much darker stones that the other two#, #3# purchase / use a palm sander with 80 grit paper to ensure the edges are smooth #4# wear a mask when sawing / sanding the stones and if you do this in a garage, be sure the door is open as much as possible #5# use a level on every layer #6# make sure you have a wet rag to wipe up any excess adhesive - it's really hard to get off the face of the stones if you let it dry #7# don't misjudge the time it takes to complete - the fireplace surround project took me 11 hours to complete and i'm a pretty good handy man. Overall, I am happy with the outcome.

We had an ugly electric fireplace in dire need of a face lift but didn't have a lot of time or money....or skills. I heard about Airstone so I began my decision to purchase by reading reviews (which is why I'm leaving my 1st ever review) and watching you tube videos. It was everything I had hoped it would be. We started about 10am and finished about 8pm with breaks in between. I'm going give the kind of details I was looking for when I was curious about this product. My electric fireplace had some kind of decorative tile board on it. All I did was wash down the board with warm wet rag to get any loose dirt off, opened my boxes of stones and bucket of adhesive and just started placing them with a putty knife. I read where some people laid out how they wanted their design but we chose to just wing it. Some of the stones needed cut so we used a mitre saw and a grinder (for the very fine adjustments). We started with a hacksaw, and if that is all you have it will be fine but it takes way more elbow grease and time than we wanted to give. We just slapped on adhesive like the instructions say (like icing a cupcake, not buttering toast) and went to town. It was surprisingly simple. The only *major-ish* issue that I had was, once I went up and began going over the center top of the fireplace glass, there was no support to hold the stones up like I had with the floor being my support on the side stones. My stones started to droop. I noticed it fairly quickly so I was able to stop what I was doing and I just did a row at a time over the glass, letting each row dry in place before I put anymore stones on - so that way the stones themselves became the support. I kept reading about the popularity of mixing Autumn Mountain and Spring Creek, but that was more beige/warm than I wanted so I mixed Birch Bluff and Spring Creek and it was exactly what I was looking for. I am NOT a DIY person. But after a lot of reviews and videos, I believed I could do this and it would be pretty simple. And it was. It changed the whole look of the focal point of my living room. If I can, you can!

The final look is amazing, sturdy and a great upgrade. But for a dyi first time project, you will need a LOT of Patience. Watch u tube videos before installation. First you have to “sand” every stone corner angles if you don’t want to end up with leveling and see through the spaces. Then the cutting part is like cutting a rock, you need an electric tool that my husband end up doing the job with a LOT of dust! But also be careful because it brakes easily. For a full fireplace it took me 3 full days, 8 boxes and 2 “glue” buckets. The final result is amazing, but it was hard work and I am pretty much handy. We made an entire kitchen with my husband, 2 stalls and always a project in hand. Personally, I didn’t like the small pieces 2 x 1 inch, but in general, go ahead! The results are very rewarding.

Used to remodel a kitchen - backsplash & a irregular shaped hexagon bar/island. Took 10 boxes. We mixed spring creek with autumn mountain using the Airstone adhesive. Cut with a wet tile saw (for fine cuts) and a miter saw (for angles & 90 cuts). Pros - cuts easily with tile or miter saw, would never use a hacksaw like recommended or in video, for the amount we had to cut and use would have never finished using a hacksaw, especially when you have to just shave a piece. Very light weight, no support lathe needed. Adhesive works very well and allows for easy adjustment. Corner pieces are easy to install, plenty of length for long corners, easy to adjust for short corners. Cons - Not all boxes were not same as far as color choices, some had great variety and others had many of the same colors, but we were doing two color sets so it was pretty easy to adjust for that. Ended up with many larger (4" pieces) because we didn't want to join two large pieces at any seam (but that was our preference), but we ripped the extra long pieces on our tile saw to create a 2" piece to use, but the other halve was unusable because it didn't measure 2" (we used some to fit into tight spaces - under window, under countertop). Some pieces were cracked or chipped out of box (still usable after cutting off damaged ends). Only sell in large boxes at $60, so if you just need a few more pieces to finish you have to buy an entire box. Some pieces had one edge cut at an angle out of the box and were not usable because they wouldn't sit flat on the stone below it (had beveled edges). Overall nice product, easy to use and be creative with, has a nice look. Recommend using a concrete/masonry sealer when finished - brings out color differential more and will fill in seams a bit if you have any glue showing. Finished with a clear-silicon caulk between countertop & stone. Used utility box extenders for outlets and switches.

I come up with crazy ideas and my husband at first thought this was one of them. But I wanted it so I did it...all by myself! I added them to the cement area just below the siding on the front of our house. It was super easy, took me about 5 days but my daughter was sick with an ear infection so that’s why it took me longer. I started from the top corner by my stairs and worked my way down and across the wall. I had to prop up the bottom row to allow it to dry. I did use the loctite fast grab because the loctite premium they suggested just kept sliding or falling off. It was more money (double in price) but worth it for my sanity. I measured the space and figured it would take me 5 boxes and it took exactly that. I ordered a pickup at Lowe’s and just be careful because the corner piece boxes look JUST like the regular boxes. Luckily, I knew that and spotted that one of the boxes they brought out was indeed a corner piece box and not the regular pieces. The Lowe’s worker couldn’t even see the difference on the boxes. When putting together I sorted them by color on a fold out table in my front yard. I loved that each box was different. They each had different variations of sizes. One box had square pieces and then I had a box that had none. I didn’t need to cut many pieces. Just a few for a length I wanted and then to fit around a drain. I used an old hacksaw we had in the garage and it was pretty easy. I was proud of myself and it came out beautiful! I live in a small friendly neighborhood built in the 50s and all the houses are the pretty much the same model. A few people stopped to tell me it was looking good while I worked on it but after I finished everyone kept walking or driving by and stopping to look. It just made my house a little more elevated and different then the rest of the homes. I included pictures of the house when we bought it, working on it and the after photo.

I installed several boxes of this 4 years ago. I ordered several more boxes this year, and they clearly changed the manufacturing process. The stones used to be clean cut, so you did not have to worry about level too much. The new stones are manufactured individually, so the color goes around the edges. So, I get why they did it. However, the flashing needs to be cleaned off, and even then you may not get a perfect edge. The older version had the stones cut from a large casting whereas the new version has each individual stone formed. So, beware of keeping level and scraping the flashing from the stones. They look great!!

I definitely needed a wet saw for installing. Also there seemed to be some slight variation in widths so you have to be careful to check with a level often. I wish there was more information about the best material to install on for a covered outdoor space. Installed with PL8 adhesive as per recommendation for outdoor installation which went easily enough. I’m happy with the look and even if installing stone by stone takes lounger than panels, I think you get a more varied and natural look. A sanding stone used for tile is also handy to even up edges where material overflowed the molds.

This brick is amazing! Single female who did it myself with zero assistance because it’s that easy. I did have the boxes delivered to my front porch because I knew they’d be too heavy for me to bring home from the store. And I purchased the tools they recommended.\n\nThe bricks are super light weight, durable, look beautiful, and the texture is authentic. I installed the bricks 1.5 years ago on a blank blah wall, transforming my living room into a warm, cozy space that I now absolutely love to hang out in. My friends can’t believe I did it myself haha. I did a TON of research trying to find the easiest, low-budget option of brick that was forgiving if I made mistakes. I also watched videos online and copied suggestions to lay the bricks out on the floor first (on top of large plastic garbage bags) in front of the wall so I could arrange them in a way that was visually pleasing and to measure where to put the mantel, fireplace, lower shelf, and tv. This prep is something I would normally be way too lazy to do but it was worth the extra effort in my opinion. Overall, the bricks were super simple to adhere to the drywall and I was able to finish the project in one day. I have lots of leftover bricks and yes, some arrived broken. \nI “designed” the layout so that I would not have to cut any bricks because I don’t have tools to do that. I was nervous getting started but trust me, it was simple. There are some imperfections for sure but nothing that is obvious or noticeable. My biggest challenge was figuring out placement for the mantel, fireplace, etc., which is why laying out the bricks ahead of time helped. I should caulk the sides and hide electrical cords but other than that, it turned out really well. Love it. Highly recommend!

I have installed a lot of this stone product in my home. I purchased flat edge, natural edge and corner pieces in the process. All in all, I bought seven cartons of the stuff. It is a good product, but far from perfect. The biggest issue is the fact that it is amazingly fragile. Expect at least 10% loss due to to pieces being broken in the box when you open it for the first time. I saw another reviewer saying to make sure to open the boxes and ensure that there are no broken ones. I had to laugh...

Worked out great for what I wanted. Used it for my outdoor kitchen. Needed something that was going to handle the elements and look like real stone. I wanted something that looked like real stone but didn't require any extra tools or material that real stone would. making cuts was easy. These stones are light weight and easy to use. I would also recommend creating a pattern with the stone on the floor before putting up. I used 4 rows at a time. Although some sites recommend using a different type of saw, the hack saw that is recommended is the easiest (yes we tried others). Use a blade with lesser teeth, 18TPI rather than 24TPI or 32TPI. Our goal was to modernize our 25-year-old home and part of that was building a walnut mantle and adding some reclaimed wood floating shelves. We considered weathered shiplap or barnwood to accent the dividing wall that houses the fireplace but decided the best effect would be to AirStone the entire 9 foot by 3-foot wall to sort of create a large fireplace illusion. While that may be a stretch, the large AirStone section definitely added a cozy modern rustic feel to our home. This is a rather sizable AirStone project, with a box count in the mid-twenties. We certainly encountered some broken stones and chips. We were able to minimize the loss by carefully cutting the AirStone pieces and touching up. AirStone’s Customer Service was great in helping us out with questions or issues. I highly recommend contacting them if you encounter any problems. They genuinely care about their customer’s experience with their product. We used Autumn Mountain exclusively, and I opted to use PL Premium adhesive as I had a large number of stones to install. For me, the gunned adhesive is more time efficient to apply than buttering mastic. As others have mentioned, it is important to maintain level courses, which was particularly critical on our installation as we brought four walls up together. The project was time-intensive, mainly due to a lot of cutting required for the four corners and the pantry door/air-return cuts. I did opt to use a small Skil tile saw that I had purchased for a previous tile job. We are very pleased with the results. This is no doubt the most dramatic transformative remodeling project that we’ve done.

Stone is nice looking, good quality and easy to work with. Followed the instructions exactly BUT then after 1 year stones started falling off our outdoor grill area and to this day are still falling off. Don't know if the adhesive is inferior or Lowes didn't rotate their stock. We are now using construction adhesive and they are staying on. Totally defeating for my husband because it's a lot of work that has to be repeated.

After reading multiple reviews purchased both the Autumn and Spring packages to blend for added color. The AirStone was easy to work with. We had a little learning curve; but in the end, I am happy with the results. We are selling one of our rentals and wanted to add a little curb appeal. We ordered 3 boxes, When I picked them up at our local Lowe's, I noticed they were delivered by FedEx. I was not surprised to find about 20 tiles out of the 3 boxes were broken.

great product, easy to install and looks great. there is variety in color and thickness. It is a good idea to lay out the entire batch to mix up the lots. The only downside was about a 5% breakage in the boxes. I used the broken pieces to cut for ends but it is still a bit annoying when you are paying about $8 a sq. foot. It is still a bargain for a DIY'er...
