Easy to install. love the fact that I can see my battery condition on the phone. it make it so much easier.

Works just as expected and the installation was straight forward.

While I liked not running a bunch of wires for display, Bluetooth is very weak. Does not keep a nice history chart. Pros- easy to install and app seems to work well, doesn't appear to be glitchy. Can monitor more than one battery or the temperature of you choose an additional add on.\n\nNice for monitoring lifepo4.

I had read alot of reviews on this 500a Smartshunt. I noted some people had Bluetooth connection issues. Knowing this and also knowing the excellent reputation of Victron products I went ahead and bought the item.\nAfter I installed it the problems with connecting to the app on my android phone started. Some times it would take 6 to 9 attempts before it would connect. I would also close the app and reopen, i uninstalled the app and reinstalled . I restated my phone but still no luck. it would never connect 1st time. i would sit next to the shunt and no go.\nThen came a firmware update. I though this would solve the problem. Problems was when it would finally connect it would crash preforming the firmware update every time.. \nFinally I though I would load the app on my work iPhone. OMG!!!!! it would load every time. it completed the firmware update 1st time. It would connect sitting meters away, and outside. as long as it could see it, it would connect. :) Happy days. \nOh I tried my personal android phone again and no connection... So is it a Android phone problem??? I doubt it. my phone is a cheap one. I'm about to buy a Samsung S21 so I'm hopping that will be fine. If not I'll continue using the iPhone.\nBut to the item. This does what you want it to and there are numerous setting you can adjust to get a more accurate reading. I had another shunt prior but it only had 100amp max. running a 3000w inverter required a 300a+ shunt.\nFor the price I am very happy.. Even more so more the connection problem is sorted .

This is a really poor quality product. It's my first Victron purchase and I am not impressed. First, Because of the amperage, the connection bolts are enormous, requiring your wiring to have very large eyelets regardless of the amperage of your system. The most unsatisfactory part about this item is the extremely weak and continuously disconnecting bluetooth. We tried 3 different phones and a laptop and the connection was terribly unreliable. You must be literally within 2-3 feet of the unit itself for it to connect and even with a full 5 bar signal showing, the bluetooth connection drops continuously. Trying to find contact information with Victron is impossible. They provide you with an option to report a problem, which generates an operation log yet they provide no email or way to send the report. I would not recommend this product, regardless of the sale price. I will be returning this one for certain.

To increase the Android up to receive a much better signal you will need to purchase - Victron Energy VE. Direct Bluetooth Smart Dongle for BMV and MPPT Overall I am still happy with the Smart Shunt.It works as it should, only problem is that bluetooth in Victron terms will not work with Windows. This product has made our off grid camping experience so much easier and stress free. It lets us know how much power we have used, what is coming in, and most importantly, how much power remains for our use. Before this it was always a bit of a guessing game which usually went badly for us.There is no guessing anymore, we know exactly what we have to use because of the Victron monitor. Also easy to install and love, love, love the App!This product has made our off grid camping experience so much easier and stress free. It lets us know how much power we have used, what is coming in, and most importantly, how much power remains for our use. Before this it was always a bit of a guessing game which usually went badly for us.There is no guessing anymore, we know exactly what we have to use because of the Victron monitor. It hasn't got the greatest instructions so we took a few days to get it right, make sure you watch some YouTube videos on installation, the booklet is pretty vague. We haven't started living in the van yet, but it showw the battery life very well, of course a monitor will never be 100% correct though. The Bluetooth is great, it shows the current, rate of discharge, etc. I don't think there's any monitor better than this one. Works really well. Instructions could be better, had to Google how to wire up the charging side. Just to be clear this shunt calculates how many amps etc you've used (amongst other things) by taking off any charging amps off the consumption amps which makes it quite accurate. I have two house battery banks total 4960 amp hours. The banks run my dive compressor, water maker, 3 air conditioning units, two refrigerators/freezer plus other power need items like lights, music, TV and charging technology items. Awesome product I have now purchased 2, one for the camper trailer one for my vehicle, very user friendly installation and app set up. I’m an electrician and find it very convenient to monitor battery usage and capacity while where camping on unpowered sites. Cumbersome set up, but somehow it is actually working now. It does things automatically , like showing battery state of charge, watts used, but the software display is not as useful as the Victron Solar controllers blue tooth software by showing daily kilo watt hours. I opted to purchase the new 300A Victron Smart Shunt since 300A covers anything that I am deploying. The added benefit is that both of the connection bolts take 5/16 rings as opposed to 3/8 on the 500 and 1000A varieties. The blue tooth functionality is a requirement for VE.smart networking, so make sure all of your VE components have blue tooth capability. However, IF you don't have VE gear, the shunt still provides a wealth of historical data and the ability to perform capacity testing. I own several of these VE smart shunts and have no complaints since they really are the easiest to configure without having to have a manual in your hand.

For simplicity, I have migrated down to the 300A VE Smart Shunt due to the lugs being 5/16 in side that fits my connections better. The 500A uses the 3/8 lugs for those higher amperage installations. The second battery monitoring or temp port always adds to the flexibility of the VE smart shunts. These sensors are useful for lead acid / AGM batteries primarily where temperature is utilized. However, for lithium batteries with a BMS I don't bother with them. I got 3 of them, 1 for battery, 1 for solar output, 1 for inverter. I use it with a raspberry pi and the free venus os from victron, then I can view all the graphs and statistics on the free web portal they give me. Been struggling with my Victron Solar Controller, going into float mode, with my lithium batteries. The solar controller was seeing the battery voltage at 14.1v when the actual battery voltage was 13.1v. I checked every connection on the batteries and solar panels, without success, until I installed this cheap Victron Smart Battery Sense. Now the batteries are charging to 100% within 3 hours, after running my fridge all night and lights/tv until 10pm.

Victron products are great. But don’t expect to get any tech support from them. They train their dealers in their products but let’s be for real about these kind of trainings. If you’re a diy that have no clue about solar system equipment Victron as good as their products are I would not recommend getting this brand. Qualified tech support is everything in this day and age market. Without good tech support we are an accident waiting to happen at best.

A great product that works well. I previously had a voltage monitor that only caused me worry. This shunt will show when i turn on a 1 watt light.
