Emperor I is 1 of the showiest Japanese Maples we've seen, but it's also a strong and dependable performer. It'll hold its color in shade and isn't likley to burn in Sun. It's a beautiful specimen, perfect for curb appeal in the front yard, creating a focal point above a garden bed or energizing a small garden. It's impressive, but not high maintenance--little to no pruning or training needed to make it look great. Emperor I compares favorably to the most prevalent Japanese Maple you're probably used to seeing, Bloodgood, because it produces a brighter red and buds out about 2-weeks later. So if you want something that's a little different, and something of an upgrade on what you see in the neighborhood, we suggest Emperor I Japanese Maple.
