The Smart Light has 3 separate LEDs on the side of the unit that act as test lights. These LEDs allow you to see if the tail light is receiving power, and if not, why. The bottom LED (labeled "G") shows if there's a fault with the ground connection. A poor ground is the most common problem seen with trailer wiring. The bottom LED on the Smart Light will alert you to an improperly connected ground by flashing repeatedly. Check that your ground connection is properly set on a clean, unpainted metal area of your trailer's frame. If there is any rust or corrosion around the ring terminal itself, clean it off and reset the ground. The top and center LEDs (labeled "S" and "T" respectively) are the testers for the stop/turn and tail light functions. If both of these LEDs light up, and the trailer light illuminates as well, then everything is working correctly and you're ready to tow. As long as the center and top LEDs light up, power is getting to the light. So if these LEDs illuminate, but the trailer light itself does not, then a bulb must need to be replaced. If only 1 of these LEDs lights up, then there is likely a problem with the connection for the circuit that is not illuminated. Check the wire associated with that function to determine the problem. With the Smart Light, there's no need to spend precious time figuring out why your connection isn't working. Simply check the LEDs, fix the issue, and you're ready to go.
