Fountain Grass Pennisetum Alopecuroides is an evergreen, perennial ornamental grass Eastern Asia to western Australia. Fountain Grass seeds are easy to grow, and this variety of Pennisetum Alopecuroides forms 32 inch tall mounds of narrow, medium to deep green foliage starting to bloom in late summer with bottle brush-like, pale brown flower spikes that arch outward from the clump like water spraying from a fountain. The grass leaves change their color to golden yellow, beige in fall, and foliage looks attractive throughout the winter. Fountain Grass looks wonderful in mass plantings, and this ornamental grass provides excellent texture, color and contrast to borders, containers, rock gardens, growing well in moist locations. Pennisetum Alopecuroides seeds can be started indoors or sown directly outdoors, and once established Fountain Grass is drought, erosion, and wet soil tolerant. The plumes of Fountain Grass are widely used as excellent fresh cut flowers that can be also dried.
