Description

Obedient Plant White is a perennial flower reaching 24 - 30 inches in height that grows well in USDA Zones: 3 - 9. Physostegia virginiana seed, also known as False Dragonhead makes a beautiful cut flower due to its dense spikes of white, snapdragon-like flowers which bloom in mid summer. This generally deer resistant flower is great for flower gardens and both hummingbirds and butterflies enjoy the nectar from the Obedient Plant flower. Sow these heirloom Obedient Plant seeds at 3 -4 seeds per plant in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun. Keep seed constantly moist until germination occurs. Space the plants 18 - 24 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Deadheading encourages continuous blooms and slows down any reseeding. Obedient Plant is usually resistant to deer. Physostegia virginiana is commonly known as Obedient Plant or False Dragonhead. It produces dense spikes of white, snapdragon-like flowers that bloom by mid-summer. It is especially lovely in a naturalized landscape setting, and once it is established, it can spread by stolons. The roots are considered to be shallow, and it pulls easily if it spreads into areas where it is unwanted. It is rich in nectar and hummingbirds and butterflies are attracted to it. Usually, a late fall planting directly outdoors into a prepared seedbed works well for Obedient Plant seed. Press the seed into the soil and lightly cover no more than the thickness of the seed. They seed will lay dormant through the winter, and with warming temperatures in spring, germination will begin. With a temperature of 70F, germination normally occurs within 42 days. Space the plants 18 - 24 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Deadheading encourages continuous blooms and slows down any reseeding. Obedient Plant is usually resistant to deer.
