Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight) USDA Hardiness Zones 3 - 7 Height 10 - 15 Inches Spread 10 - 15 Inches Annas Magic Ball Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Anna van Vloten', is a fantastic dwarf evergreen shrub that provides year round interest and brilliant color to the garden. The unique bright yellow foliage on this arborvitae can fit into any space, and is even tolerant of some shade, which most arborvitaes cannot handle. This bush is native to North America, and requires minimal maintenance and care. Since the shrub is evergreen, it does not lose its foliage in the winter and consistently puts on a show no matter the season. These shrubs are very winter hardy due to the fact that they were developed in Canada. These also grow into a mounded habit without any pruning. Grow these miniature shrubs in garden planters or small spaces. These are also great for forming low growing garden borders as a unique hedge. Annas Magic Ball Arborvitae Care Plant these bushes in deep well drained soil. Most arborvitae are very easy to care for, and the Annas Magic Ball is no different. These can be grown in planters, or small spaces. And can tolerate some shade throughout the day. Pruning Annas Magic Ball Arborvitae is not necessary. These plants only get to be about 15 inches tall and wide. If you must trim, do so in early summer. Annas Magic Ball Arborvitae Spacing To grow these into a short hedge, plant 10 inches apart, center on center. It makes for a unique low mounded garden border, great along paths and walkways. Otherwise, you plant around 15 inches apart, center on center, for a more traditional look. This plant was also featured in an article on Redfin about improving curb appeal by growing this plant in a garden planter!
