It is a small, deciduous tree featuring a spreading, flat-to-rounded crown, and can eventually grow to 20-30 feet high. Its clusters of tiny, rose to purple pea-like flowers grow profusely on the branches and mature trunks for 2-3 weeks in early spring before the foliage emerges. The s are a more intense rose-purple than common redbud. The new foliage on this medium to small tree emerges red-purple, eventually fading to a purplish-green later in the season. Leaves turn pale yellow to greenish-yellow in fall, providing nearly year round interest.
